Developing Confidence and Building Skills – Saturday 12th March
Date: Saturday 12th March 2016
Time: 10:00 am - 4:00 pm
Carers in Sheffield has arranged for Voluntary Action Sheffield to run a course for carers aged 18-35, starting in January 2016.
The aim of the course is not to help you find work straight away (don’t worry – we really do get how hard that may seem to do), but to help you identify the skills you already have and recognise your potential to be able to work in the future, or to find something you enjoy which is manageable timewise but away from your caring role.
The course will be run as a small group, with opportunities for 1:1 time if needed to discuss your own aspirations and help you identify what you might like to do in the future. There will also be the opportunity to see if there are small, manageable things you could do now – for example, online courses, getting involved in local activities or taking up a new hobby or interest. Some carers enjoy writing, designing websites, making jewellery and offering hypnotherapy, all of which can be done from home and aren’t time-pressured. The course will aim to build up confidence and assertiveness too by developing skills such as public speaking, which could be helpful when you are in a position to apply for jobs – but could also help you now when talking with health and social care professionals! It will also be an opportunity to meet and get to know other younger adult carers.
The course will run on Saturday 12th March 2016. It will be held at a Devonshire Green Building run by Sheffield Futures, on Wellington Street (we will arrange an easy-to-find meeting place for those who’d like to attend). Please call 014 272 8362 or email firstname.lastname@example.org to book.
This course is free and travel expenses will be covered. We are also planning to go to Pizza Express at the end of the day (costs covered) which may be an added incentive! Please do register your place on the course.
For more information and to book on to this course, please call Rosie in the Carer Information and Support team on 0114 272 8362 or email email@example.com.
NB, this is the postponed course from Janaury/February 2016.
