Volunteers help make a real difference
Volunteers are at the heart of Sheffield Carers Centre – and we’re currently looking to recruit more people to join our fantastic team of volunteers that engage and help over 12,000 unpaid carers across the city.
We want more volunteers to help with our ‘Community Connect’ telephone befriending service. This aims to reduce social isolation by providing an opportunity for carers to speak to someone either about their caring situation, or perhaps just have a chat about any topic that gives them a well earned break from their caring role. Listening to the carer can identify ways to help them reconnect with their community, for example, by providing information on local groups and activities.
We’re also looking for a volunteer to help track our website and social media activity that aims to increase awareness, understanding and uptake of our services by individuals and local communities. This is a great opportunity to build on admin or IT or social media experience, then develop knowledge and skills in communications planning, delivery, and monitoring results.
Volunteering doesn’t need to take a huge amount of time from peoples’ busy schedules. Your help is always welcomed by those in need of support and can also improve your health and happiness too. All our volunteers benefit from an induction, training and ongoing support process, as well as regular opportunities to meet other volunteers in informal meetings and events.
