Helping GPs to support carers
Sheffield Carers Centre are working with a range of GP Practices and Medical Centres across the city to find ways to ensure that carers’ needs can be recognised, signposted to our range of carers’ services and given support by practice staff.
If you visit your GP and you cannot see one of our posters or information about Sheffield Carers Centre, feel free to let us know and we will send the practice some of our materials.
Quality Mark for GPs
Alongside our efforts at a local level, in June 2018 the Government published its cross-government Action Plan for Carers, setting out the actions it would take to improve support for carers in England. One of the actions was to produce ‘a framework of quality markers’ for GP practices. The scheme is run by NHS England and was set out in a document that in its words ‘offers a series of practical ideas that have been developed in partnership with carers, primary care teams and other key stakeholders. Collectively, these provide a framework for improving how general practice can better identify and support carers of all ages.’
You can read details of the Quality Mark for GP initiative on the NHS England website.
