Thank you for celebrating carers in Carers Week 2019!

We’ve raised lots of awareness about carers through our poster campaign, done prize draws, put on useful training, dished out beauty treatments and got creatively crafty!

But don’t worry, we spend every week looking for ways to support carers and make Sheffield a carer-friendly city!

And as always, if you are looking after someone unpaid, you’re a carer and we’re here for you. Call 0114 272 8362 Mon-Fri 9-6 for advice, information and support.

New Hospital Project Launches

Working with a range of partners from health and social care sectors, the project – which starts at the end of January – aims to reduce avoidable delays to hospital discharge, enabling patients to return to their home as soon as they are well enough. Funded by Sheffield Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG), we will be working with the Sheffield Teaching Hospitals team, preparing patients and their carers for discharge home and providing ongoing support once the patient is home.  Sheffield Carers Centre will partner with Voluntary Action Sheffield, Age UK, Sheffield Churches Council for Community Care (SCCCC), Sheffield Teaching Hospitals (STH) and Sheffield CCG.

MP recognises Sheffield Carers Centre and calls for more support for carers in Parliament

MP for Sheffield Central Paul Blomfield spoke in the House of Commons last week to raise the plight of unpaid carers and recognise the work done by Sheffield Carers Centre. Paul pressed the Parliamentary Under-Secretary for Housing, Communities and Local Government, Rishi Sunak to get more support for carers.

Carer Card

Carer Card

The Sheffield Carer Card has been developed to reward and recognise all the hard work you do as a Carer. The Card offers discounts on a range of activities, products and services. It is the result of the generosity of local and national businesses who want to find a way to support carers and is part of our attempt to mobilise the city to work together to recognise the work carers do, help carers to connect with the services we offer and support a city-wide effort to make Sheffield much more carer-friendly.

Young Carers Action Plan

The current Young Carers Action Plan aims to ensure the six principles of Sheffield’s Young Carer, Parent and Adult Carer Strategy are being put into action, and that the views of young carers in Sheffield are being acted upon.

Good news for local carers

Good news for local carers, despite national concerns

More local unpaid carers than ever are getting the help they need, as the number of people receiving support from Sheffield Carers Centre is up nearly 20%. The number of carers currently accessing advice, information or support from the Centre has cleared the 10,000 mark for the first time.

State of Caring Survey 2018

Hearing from carers is one way that the national charities who campaign on your behalf are able to make change when talking to the government.

Last year over 7000 carers shared their experience which allowed Carers Trust and Carers UK to highlight the impact of being a carer to the media, in dozens of evidence submissions to Parliamentary and Government consultations and in reports that influence decision makers and policy makers in a wide range of areas.
