The theme for this year’s campaign was ‘Know Your Rights’

Whether you are a new carer or have been caring for someone for a while, it’s important you understand your rights and can access available support when you need it, The main aims of Carers Rights Day are to (1) help ensure carers are aware of their rights (2) let carers know where to get help and support (3) raise awareness of the needs of carers.

Carers need to know their rights wherever they are in their caring journey … in the workplace … in a healthcare setting … when interacting with professionals … or at home. The campaign provides carers with information and support, so they are confident asking for what they need, and know how to challenge things when their rights are not being met.

How we supported Carers Rights Day

Sheffield Carers Centre were delighted to work with Sheffield Young Carers and Sheffield City Council on a week long campaign to promote Carers Rights Day which included:

  • Two interviews with Paulette Edwards on BBC Radio Sheffield
  • Posting a series of four short videos on Social Media (see below)
  • Twenty delegates at a free webinar by Irwin Mitchell to help explain the rights of carers
