The trustees of Sheffield Carers Centre are elected by our members and are ultimately responsible for the policy and direction of the Centre.

Chair  Ann le Sage
Ann has been a Trustee of the Centre since 2007.  Her career focused on employment and social affairs, at international, national, regional and local level with the Department of Employment.  She has worked as a consultant overseas and, unpaid, with various charities in Sheffield including the Alzheimer’s Society.  She retired early to care for her husband and is currently a carer.  Ann was a non-executive director in the NHS for nine years, including chairing the Northern General Hospital Trust and the South West PCT (2001 to 2006).  She has been a director, then Chair (from 2008), of Northern Counties Housing Association regional office.  Since 2000, Ann has chaired the Friends of Porter Valley, a substantial and active Sheffield parks environment group.

Vice Chair  Stuart Webb
Stuart has been a trustee of the Centre since 2008 and was Chair from 2008 to 2013.  He retired from over 30 years’ service with Sheffield City Council Administration and Legal Department in 2007.  As Group Manager, Committee Secretariat, he was responsible for Education and Social Services and also clerk to the officer working group of the Heart of the City Project and secretary to the Board of Sheffield One.  In addition, he acted as clerk to the full meetings of the City Council and worked on the restructuring of the Council’s decision-making processes under the government’s Modernising Local Government Programme.  Stuart was the Council’s Health Scrutiny Policy Officer, working with Council and NHS officers and the community and voluntary sector in examining and developing policies relating to health and social care.  He also managed the Education Scrutiny process.

Treasurer  Glynn Sherwin
Glynn became Treasurer of the Centre in 2009.  He is a Chartered Public Finance Accountant (CPFA) and was Senior Project Examiner for CPFA’s final examinations for three years.  Prior to retiring as Head of Corporate Finance (Chief Finance Officer) of Sheffield City Council in 2001, he held various senior positions in the Finance Department.  He became an Associate Consultant for the Society of Local Authority Chief Executives where he carried out reviews of local authorities for the Audit Commission.  In 2003 he became a member of the Board of Trustees of the Sheffield City Trust (SCT) and was Chair of its Audit and Governance Sub-Committee and Chair of Sheffield International Venues Ltd (SIV) until January 2016.  Glynn is also a non-executive director of two Sheffield companies.

Trustees

Briony Broome
Briony was formerly the Director of Sheffield Churches Council for Community Care and has been a trustee with a number of organisations supporting vulnerable people.  She was a founder member of Sheffield Faith Forum and sat on the Local Strategic Partnership for 5 years.  Briony is a carer.  

Charles Neal
Charles is a partner at Sheffield’s Bell & Buxton Solicitors, a full-service law firm where he heads up the Wills and Probate department. He has also recently completed the academic stage of Notarial training. He has extensive experience of Elderly Client matters and protection of vulnerable adults.

David Pollard
David was co-opted onto the Board of Trustees before becoming a trustee in 2013. After retirement he worked in care for 18 months and is currently a carer.

Dr Lorna Warren
Lorna is an academic in the Department of Sociological Studies at the University of Sheffield where her research has focused in particular on the experiences of older people, and caring has been central to this focus. Lorna has been a carer.
